Dear Betty,
We have been friends for about 20 years!
We keep lots of letters in which we told each other about ourselves, our families, our friends, our journeys, our schools, our pupils, our problems and our celebrations.
Then we exchanged gifts, and photos, and our pupils exchanged letters and souveniers. In our classroom there are so many books and magazines you sent to my pupils. Thank you very much for everything you have done to help me teach about your culture.
We were lucky to meet twice - first in San Francisco in 1996, and then in South Carolina in 2002 - you flew there to meet your Russian friend and brought presents, and those delicious chocolate cakes all our group of Russian teachers enjoyed. Do you remember our stay at Mrs Lorente's house, the Petovna-Lorente picnic and our trip to the Wine Country? Do you remember our visit to the theatre in Columbia?
All these years we have been sharing our thoughts about books, authors, films, weather, and world events. We are so different, and we have much in common.
Would you like to join our English Club once again and be our guide to introduce the USA of the 21 century to my pupils?
Please write soon.
